FORT DAVIS — Fort Davis NHS is pleased to announce O’Banion Middle School Student Council, out of Garland Texas, received the regional George and Helen Hartzog award for Outstanding Youth Group Service.
For the third consecutive year, this student group and its faculty advisers, Elizabeth Sharp and Josh Hopkins, have given hundreds of volunteer hours to Fort Davis NHS leading up to and during a 3-day Earth Day event at Far Park in Dallas. At each year’s event, they share with thousands of visitors the story of Fort Davis, the Buffalo Soldiers, and western expansion.
The intermountain region consists of over 80 parks including Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Parks. We are very proud of these students for winning this award and appreciative for all they have done for Fort Davis NHS and the National Park Service’s mission.
