Truck total loss in Friday’s fire
PRESIDIO COUNTY — A vehicle fire Friday afternoon resulted in no injuries but a total loss when a truck caught fire on the side of Highway 67.
The Marfa Volunteer Fire Department responded to the truck fire around 3:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The department sent a rescue truck and a brush truck, according to department chief Gary Mitschke.
The fire had spread from the truck to the grass on the roadside, but Border Patrol agents and Texas Department of Transportation employees had mostly extinguished the flames before the fire department arrived, Mitschke said.
The identity of the driver was not released, but no one was injured in the fire. It appeared the driver and passengers had pulled over and exited the truck when they noticed the engine was smoking, Mitschke said.
