Sul Ross student juried art awards presented

ALPINE — Jesus H. Guerrero, El Paso, received the first-place award, and Gunner Gardner, Granger, won People’s Choice in the annual Sul Ross State University Juried Art Awards competition. Winners were announced at a reception held Thursday, May 4 in the Francois Fine Arts Building Gallery.

Guerrero’s self-portrait “Jesus,” an oil painting on canvas, received first place honors. Gardner’s photograph, “Forgot my Notebook,” won the People’s Choice award, which is determined by gallery visitors’ votes.

Donna Glenn, Alpine, won second place for her ceramic sculpture, “Datura.” Rainey Miller, Hico, received third place for her oil painting on canvas, “Is Anyone There?”

Receiving honorable mention were Kacey Barton, Midland, “Marc’s Horse,” oil on canvas; Andylyn Heckart, Runaway Bay, “A gem of a mountain,” digital image; Calandria Martinez, Alpine, “Monroe,” oil on canvas; and Leinora Alimboyoguen, Alpine, “Golden Soup Tureen,” high fire ceramics.
