The Presidio High Aficionados of Solar Car (PHASCar) team raffled off a quilt at the Presidio High School Sports Banquet on Monday. The PHASCar team raised $700 selling raffle tickets, money that will help them participate in this summer’s Solar Car Challenge.
Presidio ISD technology instructor Carmen Rubner donated the quilt. It contains shirts that represent achievements and progress of the district’s sports program from elementary to high school.
Presidio Independent School District Superintendent Dennis McEntire did the honor of drawing the winning ticket.
The PHASCar team would like to extend their gratitude to all the administrators of the three campuses, Ms. Yvette Deanda, Mr. Ernesto Monte and Mr. Glen Omar of PES, Dr. Edgar Tibayan, Mr. Leoel Madrid and Mr. Brian Whitecotton of LRFMS, Mr. Santos Lujan, Mr. Dimitri Garcia and Ms. Carmen Rubner of PHS. Thank you also to the whole Presidio community for the support and help.
This will be the third year for the PHASCar team in participating in the Solar Car Challenge since McEntire brought the concept to the district in 2015. This year’s race will be held at the Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth on July 15 – 22.
Members and sponsors of the PHASCar are very excited in this year’s race since they are going to build a new solar car.
