MHS golf falls short of state championship by five strokes

MARFA — Marfa’s golf team put forth a strong performance at the Regional Golf Tournament in San Angelo and fell five strokes short of an appearance at the State Tournament.
Finding themselves in third place after the first round of play, the Shorthorns were led by Jesse JJ Garcia with an impressive 86 shot performance by the sophomore golfer.
The team shot a 390 total, with Steven Granado (97), Jesse Walker (107), Huck Roch (105), and Brandon Leos (106) joining Garcia to help the team to an impressive 3rd place standing after one day of play. Day two of play, saw Marfa paired up with the top three schools to see which three teams would move on to the state tournament.
After an initial strong three holes, Marfa’s drivers began to weaken and the team slowly dropped in the standings and missed the state tournament by five total strokes.
Under the guidance of Mr. David Gomez and Oscar Aguero, the team brought home the District Championship and made their second consecutive Regional appearance.
