Marfa softball at top of district standings

April 13th, 2017 under Sports

MARFA – Marfa softball drops its first district game Tuesday on the road against Van Horn, 11-10.

The loss still leaves Marfa at the top of the district standings with only one loss and with four games remaining in the regular district season.

Van Horn’s offense out hit the Shorthorns early in the game, but Kendra Serrano (3-4), Alyssa Olvera (1-3), Rebecca Ontiveros (3-4, 4 RBIs), Priscilla Serrano (2-4), and Nohely Ramirez (2 RBIs) kept the offense battling late in the game to make a final push going into the final inning.

With the tying run in Serrano at third, Marfa was unable to bring her around to score, ending the game in the top of the seventh inning.

Other offensive contributors were Elena Hernandez (2-4), Citlalli Sanchez (1 run scored), Lexi Marquez (2-4, 1 RBI), and Isabella Morales (SAC, 1 RBI), and Kaci Flores (2-4, 2RBIs).

The Shorthorns will travel to McCamey next week for a double header and host Van Horn at home next Friday at 5:30pm.
