City to continue law enforcement discussion tonight
April 27th, 2017 under Public Notices
MARFA – Marfa City Council members are set to meet tonight for a regular meeting following a public hearing regarding the request by Mr. and Mrs. Taqui for sale of city property at 5:30pm at the Casner Room at City Hall.
On the agenda is continued discussion on the proposed law enforcement interlocal agreement between the city and Presidio County.
The contract has been stalled as negotiations on the agreement between the city’s negotiation committee and Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez have been ongoing.
The sheriff has previously stated that he would not accept the contract as written by the city, which differs widely from the contract that has been approved yearly for the past seven years.
The sheriff’s version of the contract had also been amended to discontinue the issuing of Class C Misdemeanor tickets to the Marfa Municipal Court, with the sheriff stating he wanted to keep all of the fines collected within the county.
The city will also set a date for a public hearing concerning law enforcement services at the meeting.
