FORT DAVIS — The 11th annual picnic in the park, Easter egg hunt and gospel music is this Sunday, April 16 in Fort Davis. Sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance and the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce, the events are family friendly and open to everyone.
Family and friends are invited to the Jeff Davis County Park on south Hwy 17 Sunday afternoon for the picnic and egg hunt. Admission is one non-perishable food item to support the Jeff Davis County Food Pantry. Bring a picnic lunch, outdoor games and lawn chairs to set up for the fun. The Easter egg hunt begins at 1:30pm and is separated by age groups. There will be hotdogs courtesy of Fort Davis State Bank and ice cream by Hebert’s Caboose for kids participating in the egg hunt. Thousands of eggs will be scattered through-out the park for an exciting hunt with scenic Davis Mountains on the horizon.
Following the picnic and egg hunt, folks are encouraged to head over to the Kelly Pavilion located behind the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce for a live music performance. Admission is free.
“We have three great bands lined up for our first ever “Gospel Sunday” said Chamber director Melissa Henderson. “The McMercy Family band sings old-time gospel favorites. The Lonesome Heroes are a fun band to scoot a boot’ to and local favorites “The Last Call Band” will open with country and western classics.”
The music line-up begins at 4pm starting with Fort Davis and Marfa’s “The Last Call Band,” followed by Austin’s “The Lonesome Heroes” and finishing with Austin’s “The McMercy Family Band.”
