PRESIDIO – Presidio County Sheriff Chief Deputy Joel Nuñez and Deputy Mitch Garcia were presented with awards during a Sheriff’s Department sponsored luncheon on February 23 at the Presidio Activity Center.

Sheriff Danny Dominguez hosted the event in appreciation for all agencies involved in the Candelaria shooting investigation. More than 35 agents from different agencies attended the luncheon.

Chief Deputy Joel Nuñez was recognized for his outstanding performance in the investigation of the shooting that occurred near Candelaria in January 2017.

Chief Deputy Nuñez responded to the call of shots fired with great risk to himself, knowing the location was very remote and with conflicting reports of what the situation was. He single handedly coordinated what would become a massive multi-agency response which allowed for efficient and successful investigation.

Deputy Mitchell Garcia received an award in recognition of his outstanding performance with Presidio County Sheriff’s Office in Marfa. Deputy Garcia has provided unwavering support to other law enforcement agencies. Deputy Garcia’s dedication to Presidio County Sheriff’s Office fighting crime in 2016 alone resulted in 53 arrest, 109 apprehensions of illegal persons, money seizures totaling $69,422 and 1,760 lbs. of marijuana with a net worth $808,000.
