Marfa softball unit bags two victories

sports m Softball Team Picture webMARFA, SEMINOLE – Marfa’s softball team opened their season up last weekend at the Seminole Softball Tournament and brought home two big wins in five outings.

Sophomore pitcher Kendra Serrano went the distance on the mound for the Shorthorns in each of the five starts in the three-day event.

Marfa took care of Seminole Gold 7-5 and shut out Kermit 10-0.

On day one of the tournament, Rebecca Ontiveros picked up 3 RBIs early on in game one, while Kendra Serrano, Elena Hernandez, Shelby Martinez, Kaci Flores, Isabella Morales, Nohely Ramirez, and Lexi Marquez got on base as well with timely hits.

Marfa also faced Midland Christian, Seminole, Midland Lee, and Denver City, but came up short in getting the victory.

The Lady Shorthorns will host their home-opener today, Thursday at 5pm against Pecos, followed by another road game in Alpine against the Lady Bucks at 3:30pm, and then a spring break road game next Monday, as the Lady Shorthorns take on Presidio, in Presidio, at 10am.
