MARFA, SANDERSON – Marfa High School’s tracksters put forth impressive performances last Saturday at Sanderson’s Rio Grande Relays. Arron Luna, Georgina Brugette, and Kevin Pippen each brought home a gold in their respective events, and also placed in various other events.

Luna, Marfa’s junior multi-sport standout, set a Rio Grande Relays record in the 200m run with a time of 22.46 and set a PR for himself in the process, while also smoking the competition in the 400m run for a gold medal and placing himself with the best time in the state in the 200m run and 400m run as well.

Kevin Pippen also finds himself with the best shot put distance thrown in the state thus far in the early season, with his gold medal worthy throw of 47’01.25 and a mention on the Texas 1A track standings as the number one thrower.  Pippen, a junior, looks to improve on this performance in the upcoming meets.

Georgina Brugette also received a gold for Marfa in the 300m hurdles and a bronze place finish in the high jump, while already running faster times in her events than her freshman season.

Steven Granado placed second place in discuss for Marfa with a throw of 95’5”.

Marfa’s track team will head to Van Horn Saturday for the Memorial Relays, with field events set to begin at 9am and the Van Horn JH meet set to begin at 4pm.
