4H offers free spring break day camps in Marfa

March 2nd, 2017 under Education

MARFA – This spring break, Presidio County AgriLife Extension and 4H will offer free day camps for 4H members and friends in Presidio, Brewster and Jeff Davis counties, ages kindergarten to 18.

Camps will be held at the Presidio County Fairgrounds in Marfa on Tuesday, March 14 and Thursday, March 16.

These programs will offer kids an enriching, learning experience to help them understand projects that Texas 4H has to offer, cultivate friendships and belonging. Through a mix of educational and hands-on activities, kids will experience new adventures, learn new skills, and share interests with friends.

“With school out for break, many kids don’t get enough physical activity or learning—a critical gap that Presidio County 4H is addressing,” says Presidio County Extension Agent Reba Griggs. “In our day camp, kids are in a safe environment where they can discover what 4H has to offer, develop character and explore new talents and interests to reach their potential.”

Daily registration begins at 9:30am, camp starts at 10am, and pick-up is at 5pm. Each day, participants need to bring a sack lunch; drinks and snacks will be provided.

Discover 4H will be held on Tuesday, March 14. During Discover 4H Day Camp, kids will explore gardening, plant science, fashion, clothing and textiles, cooking, food & nutrition, archery and shooting sports! With all that fun rolled into one day, imagine the endless possibilities with 4H! We ask that students bring an old tee shirt for the clothing and textiles project; it will be cut up and repurposed.

A photography workshop will be held on Thursday, March 16. During the workshop kids will learn how to use cameras, lighting, and other photography equipment to get great shots. Kids will also learn skills to review and evaluate photos for quality and appearance, and techniques in editing and developing photographs for display, competition, or personal enjoyment. We ask that students bring a photo device: cell phone, tablet or digital camera.

Call the Presidio County AgriLife Extension Office to pre-register at 432-729-4746. Walk-Ins will be accepted beginning at 9:30am each day.
