OJINAGA, PRESIDIO – “Somos Ojinaga” will be in Ciudad Juárez on Saturday, September 22 at the Festival Internacional Chihuahua at Centro Cultural Paso del Norte in Juarez, Chichuaha, Mexico this Saturday, September 22 at 8:30pm. The second performance will be at the Plaza Mayor in Chihuahua City on Monday,Septembr 24 at 8 pm with a final performance in Ojinaga at the Zocalo on Wednesday, September 26 at 8pm.
The project “Somos Ojinaga” (We Are Ojinaga) was born from the idea of creating a show that would authentically represent Ojinaga.
“One of the things that sets us apart is that Ojinaga is the world capital of norteña music, hence the idea of presenting a show that includes several disciplines,” said Manuel Maldonado, president of the city´s Citizens Council of Culture.
“Somos Ojinaga” is a show in one sequence that narrates a story led by two actors.

Members of the Resonators who will be participating in “Somos Ojinaga”, front from left, Juan Dominguez, John Ferguson, and Ramon Deanda. Back from left, Efrain Lujan, Eric Olivas, Molly Ferguson, Lucy Ferguson, Maxwell Ferguson, Isaac Pizarro, and Jose Taro Gutierrez.
The song titled `El de Ojinaga´ (The One from Ojinaga), composed by late Sócrates Bustamante of Ojinaga, is the starting point of the narration of the story in which the bands Sombra Norteña and La Leyenda del Bravo – both groups from Ojinaga– participate musically.
Taking advantage of the influence of norteña music in the U.S., the group The Resonators, from Presidio was invited to play along to the accompaniment of the Chihuahua State Philharmonic Orchestra.
The show, which lasts an hour and 10 minutes, also features the stage presence of a choir and a dance group.
“The dance tries to recreate the way they danced here in Ojinaga. For this presentation we have invited iconic musicians, the dancers have years of experience. In short, we are trying to harness the talents of all of them. The idea was to let our people shine,” added Maldonado.
