Marfa Contemporary to celebrate grand opening October 6

September 6th, 2012 under Arts

MARFA – Marfa Contemporary will celebrate its grand opening and inaugural exhibition with a public reception from 6pm-10pm on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 100 E. San Antonio St.

“Marfa is an arts center unto itself, has an international following, and is well-respected in the region,” City Arts Center President Christian K. Keesee said.

“This will be our first space outside of Oklahoma City, and will allow us to offer the artists we bring to Oklahoma the additional opportunity to be shown in more than one location.”

Guests will be among the first to experience “Pilgrimage Marfa,” the inaugural exhibition at Marfa Contemporary, which will include 67 images by respected photographers Phil Bebbington, Allison V. Smith and Judith Turner, who have each photographed Marfa and surrounding areas at various times over the last 30 years.

Food for the event will be provided by The Pizza Foundation.  Beer and wine will also be available.

There is no cost to attend.

The exhibition will be open during regular gallery hours through Thursday, Dec. 20.  Hours are 10am-6pm Wednesday through Saturday, and 10am- 3pm on Sunday.

Marfa Contemporary is the first regional extension of City Arts Center, an Oklahoma City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging creative expression in all its forms through education and exhibitions.

Exhibitions at Marfa Contemporary will be free to the public year-round and feature recent works by regional, national and international artists. Classes and workshops for children and adults will also be offered throughout the year at minimal cost.
