Slideshow: Six-man football comes to MISD
The field is shorter and narrower. It will take 15 yards to make a first down instead of 10. A field goal is worth four points instead of three. A kicked point after attempt is two points instead of one. A run/pass point after attempt is one point instead of two; and if at any point after halftime, a team leads by 45 points or more, the game is over.
Marfa Shorthorn football players and fans will have to learn these new rules. Soon. Marfa’s first six-man football scrimmage is Saturday, August 18 in Fort Hancock. The following Saturday will pit Marfa against former rival Fort Davis in a scrimmage as well.
Under the direction of Athletic Director and head football coach Jeff Jones, along with coaches Richard Hibbitts, Alonzo Samaniego, Blair Kellner and Patrick Shapland, the Shorthorns have already begun practice, learning new formations, drills and plays.
