Plant diagnostic clinic is August 16 in Alpine
ALPINE – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will host a Plant Diagnostic Clinic for residents of Brewster, Jeff Davis and Presidio Counties.
The clinic will be held at Kokernot Lodge on the Scenic Loop on August 16 from 9am to 2pm. There will be a $10 charge for participants. Those with a Private Pesticide Applicator will be able to receive 3 CEU’s toward their recertification for attending this meeting.
Speakers will include Oscar Mestas with the Texas Forest Service, Alyson McDonald and Mark Muegge specialists with Texas AgriLife Extension Service.
Registration will begin at 9am then at 9:15 Oscar will cover the IPS beetle affecting many pine trees in the area as well as other topics. Afterwards, Alyson McDonald will talk about native plants that invade the landscape, and Mark Muegge will speak on insect management.
Participants are encouraged to bring leaves, vegetables, insects or other problem plants to have them diagnosed by the specialist. Everyone will have the chance to individually talk to the specific specialist about their problem plants.
At 1:15pm, Oscar will reiterate his talk on the IPS beetle for those that could not be there at the morning meeting. The clinic will end around 2:30pm. This and other programs conducted by the Texas AgriLife Extension service serve people of all ages regardless of sex, religion, socioeconomic level, handicap, color or national origin.
