WARD COUNTY, FORT DAVIS – A 58-year-old Fort Davis man died after an accident the afternoon of Thursday, August 23 about three miles east of Monahans on Interstate 20.

A 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Richard Henry Sandidge Jr. was westbound in the outside lanes of I-20 at about 1:30pm with a 1993 International tractor-trailer rig traveling behind him, the report by Department of Public Safety trooper Mark Fuentes of Monahans stated.

The report stated the motorcycle slowed and the truck, driven by Ruben Eduardo Garay of Midland, applied its brakes but collided with the motorcycle, which hit a light pole north of the shoulder, the report stated.

Garay was not injured, but Sandidge was pronounced dead at Ward County Memorial Hospital at 2:08pm the same day.

The report noted Sandidge had been wearing a helmet.
