Ponton fined by state ethics commission
ALPINE, AUSTIN – Alpine attorney and runoff candidate for 83rd state judicial district attorney Rod Ponton has been fined by the Texas Ethics Commission for filing two different campaign finance reports beyond the filing deadline.
Ponton was a day late in filing his “30 days before election finance report.” He was assessed a $500 fine by the regulatory agency.
He also was late in filing his 8-day-Pre-Election Report.
That carries an initial penalty of $500 for the first day late plus $100 every subsequent day the report is not turned in.
Ponton said this week that it was a simple matter of turning in the paper work late.
“It’s just one of those things where there’s just so much to keep up with,” he said. “It’s nothing sinister. I was late and I confess. What can I say, I was late.”
