Exhibit of Marfa photographer’s work opens Friday at Greasewood Gallery
MARFA – Greasewood Gallery at the Hotel Paisano hosts a solo exhibit by Marfa photographer Lesley Brown July 13-August 26.
The show, entitled “Embrace Light”, opens Friday, July 13 with an artist’s reception 6-8 p.m. The public is invited.
Brown’s passion for photography began in the mid-1990s when she purchased her first camera. Traveling by motorcycle, Brown began capturing images of her adventures on the road. As her interest in photography grew Brown began to incorporate other parts of her lifestyle in her work. Custom motorcycles, classic cars, iconic pin-up images, tattoos, along with the beautiful scenery of the road became her inspirations.
The show’s title, “Embrace Light” is also a theme in Brown’s life. The words are taken from a quote from George Eastman: “Light makes photography. Embrace it. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know it. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.”
Soon after reading those words Brown designed her own tattoo with an old style camera and the words “Embrace Light” underneath it. “Light and color have always been a huge factor in my work,” says Brown.
Brown’s images have graced covers of domestic and international magazines. Television shows, including TLC’s LA Ink, A&E’s Inked, and E! Chanel’s Hottest Women of the Web, have featured Brown’s images.
Brown’s portfolio includes images of some of the most prominent alternative lifestyle models and many adult film actresses but her work is not limited to photographing women. She has an extensive history of commercially photographing Harley-Davidson motorcycles, biker lifestyle imagery, live performances, pet portraits, and still life product photography.
Of her own talent, Brown says, “I have seen photo exhibits and was amazed at how photographers would present their work. There always seemed to be a theme, or an intense story behind each image. Even the titles of their gallery show is full of deep meaning. For me, I just like to take photos.”
