FAR WEST TEXAS – With 93 percent of precincts reporting in the 29 counties that make up Texas’ Congressional District 23, longtime state representative Pete P. Gallego appears to have bested his challenger, Ciro Rodriguez. Gallego was ahead by 2,406 votes late Tuesday night.

FAR WEST TEXAS – Rod Ponton defeated Frank Brown in the Democratic Party runoff election for 83rd District Attorney by 126 votes Tuesday.

Ponton, the current Alpine city attorney and a former Presidio County and city of Presidio attorney, polled 1,789 votes in the four-county race to 1,663 votes for Brown, a former 83rd DA.
