Terlingua resident killed in car wreck

BREWSTER COUNTY – Terlingua resident James Goodnow, 74, died Sunday, June 10 in a single vehicle car wreck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Goodnow was traveling north on Texas 118 late Sunday night and was 29.5 miles south of Alpine when his car left the roadway, he overcorrected, and overturned the vehicle.

James Goodnow on board his bus, the Yellow Rose of Texas, while touring the country as a Veteran for Peace.

Goodnow made national headlines during the Iraq War when he took his bus, the Yellow Rose of Texas, and motored around the country as one of the Veterans for Peace opposing the war. He was a U.S. military veteran.

He later helped secure two ambulances for the people of Haiti after the devastating earthquake there.

Brewster County Justice of the Peace Gerald Sotelo pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident at 10:45pm.

Alpine DPS Trooper David Miller was the investigating officer.
