Rio Grande by moonlight Saturday
SOUTH PRESIDIO, BREWSTER counties – To celebrate the 20th annual National Trails Day, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Fort Leaton State Historic Site, and the Barton Warnock Visitor Center will host the last full moon hike until this fall.
Enjoy a guided, two-hour hike along the Rio Grande. Interpretive Rangers will guide visitors on a one-mile hike through the HooDoo rock formations along the river under a full moon. Find out about nocturnal wildlife of the Chihuahuan Desert, geology of the HooDoos, and a few ghost stories.
It’s Saturday, June 2. Visitors will meet at parking lots of Fort Leaton in Presidio, and at Barton Warnock Visitor Center in Lajitas at 8:30pm, and then drive to the Hoodoos trailhead, meeting there at 9pm.
Bring a flashlight, hiking stick or pole, sturdy shoes or boots, and appropriate clothing for desert environment.
