Thirty Presidio High School band members advance to state competition

PRESIDIO – Thirty Presidio High School band students have advanced to the state competition. The Presidio High School Band competed in the 2012 Region 6 UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest in Monahans on Saturday, February 4. Twenty-seven ensemble performers and three solo performers are advancing to the state competition in May.

State qualifying soloists include Dafne Rodriguez, a sophomore on tenor saxophone, Alan Galindo, sophomore, on multiple percussion and Molly Ferguson, sophomore, on the marimba.

State qualifying ensembles include a flute trio made of senior Itzel Garcia, junior Aimee Valdez and junior Diana Ortiz.

The clarinet quartet is made up of sophomores Marla Baltazar, Jessica Bustamante, Mayra Levario and Paola Lozano, who also advance to state.

A saxophone quartet advances, made of junior Joevany Sanchez, sophomore Iamhilex Fernandez, senior Alyssa Tavarez, and sophomore Dylan Rivera.

A brass quintet made of senior Alfred Peña and junior Eduardo Lujan on trumpet, freshman April Crowder on French horn, sophomore Dave Obrero on trombone, and sophomore Nicholas Short on tuba advanced to the state level competition.

The Percussion ensemble which includes sophomores Molly Ferguson and Alan Galindo on vibraphones, juniors Daniel Peña and Samantha Porras on marimbas, junior Karen Rangel on the xylophone, sophomore Emilio Lujan, junior Nazareth Melchor, sophomore Jose Holguin on Latin percussion, sophomore Isaac Pizarro on the drum-set, sophomore Jessica Bustamante on the synthesizer and junior Sergio Armendariz on the bass also advanced to state competition.
