Lannan writer reading is Saturday at MBC
MARFA – Lannan Foundation Marfa writer in residence Judith E. Stein will read from her work at 6pm Saturday, February 4 at the Marfa Book Co.’
The Philadelphia-based Stein is a writer, art historian, and independent curator. Her biography-in-progress of the art dealer Richard Hu Bellamy earned a Warhol Foundation/Creative Capital Arts Writers Grant in 2008.
Among her honors is a 1994 Pew Foundation Fellowship in the Arts in literary non-fiction; an Award for Best Catalogue, International Art Critics Association, American Section, for I Tell My Heart: The Art of Horace Pippin, in 1995; and a writing residency at the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio, Italy in 1999.
For the last 30 years, her features and reviews have appeared in Art in America and Art News, as well as in The New York Times Book Review, Ms., and Metropolitan Home.
She is a former arts reviewer for National Public Radio’s Fresh Air and Morning Edition.
A graduate of Barnard College, she earned a doctorate in art history from the University of Pennsylvania.
