4-H members meet game wardens

February 9th, 2012 under Education

MARFA – Marfa 4-H Club members met the area game wardens when they met Monday at the Marfa Cowboy Church.

Three area game wardens, Matthew Bridgefarmer, Zach Moerbe, and Anthony King presented a special program, including information on the game warden career, laws and regulations regarding wildlife and hunting, samples of elk and deer horns, and a close look at a Golden Eagle. The program ended with a tour of the trucks and a boat used by the agency to enforce wildlife protection.

Club members were also congratulated for their participation in both the Sandhills and Presidio County livestock shows. Those traveling to further stock shows were recognized for their upcoming competitions.

The meeting concluded with a “Texans Building Character” exercise from County Extension Agent Jesse Lea Schneider.  The curriculum is based on the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Fairness, Respect, Caring, Responsibility, and Citizenship. Each of the teams were given an acronym; K.I.N.D., S.H.A.R.E., J.U.S.T., and L.O.Y.A.L and then asked to work together to create sayings for the acronyms and write them in the space provided.

Each team then created posters that are now on display in the Marfa National Bank lobby. The public is invited to stop by the bank and view the great ideas and artistry of these young 4-H’ers.

Presidio County 4-H leaders and parents met after the general meeting. The next meeting for them is 5pm Monday, February 27 at the church. The next meeting of club members will include a special program by the Marfa Rock Shop.
