Library Talk – New history titles on the shelves
By RENEE MICK
I’ll bet there are a lot of history buffs here in Marfa. Satisfy your need for knowledge at the library. How about these titles? “December 1941: 31 Days that Changed America and Saved the World” by Craig Shirley. “Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine, and the Murder of a President” by Candice Millard. “A Slave in the White House: Paul Jennings and the Madisons” by Elizabeth Dowling Taylor. And if that last title piques your interest in the Madison presidency, you could check out “James Madison” by Richard Brookhiser. Another good biography just in is “Jack Kennedy, Elusive Hero” by Chris Matthews.
We would never forget about the kids of Marfa, there are lots of new books for you too!
Come by to see lots of new graphic novels like Babymouse and Amelia Rules. Do you like to listen to folktales and fairytales? We have some brand new books on CD put out by Rabbit Ears. Everybody loves The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Beatrix Potter’s tales. Listen to famous actors reading the tales accompanied by great musicians playing enchanting music. Parents, you might like these too! Thanks to Basha Burwell for suggesting these!
It’s a new year and we’re starting it out with some new magazine titles. Come by and spend a little time with magazines like Bicycling, Dwell, Popular Science, Smart Money, Texas Gardener and more. David Walstrom generously donated a subscription to The Economist, and Gladys“Punkie” Dennis donated Southern Living. We are so lucky to have these. And for the kids we now subscribe to Kids Discover and Ranger Rick, both are wonderful educational magazines, and fun to read.
We just started two more computer classes this week, one is basic and the other a little more advanced. Stay tuned for announcements of more classes to come.
Storytime continues, it’s every Saturday at 1pm. Bring your kids for stories, songs, and more.
Have you noticed the spruced up tree in the library parking lot, out by the Book Barn?
Gary Oliver and Dick Ancel got together last weekend and gave it a good trimming. It looks so much happier. Now library staff and friends have the perfect lunch spot! Thanks guys!
