Fire danger leads to fireworks ban
PRESIDIO COUNTY – Fireworks won’t be a part of July 4th celebrations this year in Presidio County.
A disaster declaration due to extreme wildfire danger has been authorized by Gov. Rick Perry’s office, and Presidio County commissioners subsequently banned the use or sale of any fireworks.
In recent years, residents have been allowed to shoot fireworks at designated parks. That practice will not be allowed this year.
County Judge Paul Hunt noted that a municipality wanting to put on a city-wide display may contact his office to talk about a possible exception, but the use of fireworks by individuals is prohibited.
Brewster County has the same ban in effect. Personal use of fireworks is prohibited in Jeff Davis County too, though it’s possible the annual commercial fireworks show may go on.
